Task for all

TFT Mitigation Services

If SURE assesses the risk to be ‘Non-negligible’, it is recommended that the buyer ‘Requests TFT Mitigation’.  The Buyer then has the following options in SURE:

  • Send this Pre- order to the supplier in order for them to add, update or review the wood source of the component information.
  • Request Mitigation
  • Cancel this pre-order

If the buyer requests Mitigation via SURE, a Level 1 desktop review will be carried out.  In most cases this will be sufficient to mitigate the risk and provide a TFT risk outcome for the wood source.

TFT do offer additional levels of mitigation as detailed below:

TFT EU Timber Regulation Due Diligence Support: Risk Mitigation Levels

  1. Level 1a – Desktop 3rd Party certification check.

TFT will review and check the relevance of the documentation/supply chain information uploaded to SURE.

Level 1b – Desktop document check (not 3rd party certified)

TFT will review and check the relevance of the documentation/supply chain information uploaded to SURE.

  2. Level 2 – Desktop Mitigation (supplier support)

Documentation/supply chain information is incomplete.  TFT will liaise with the supplier a maximum of 5 times during a 30 day working day period to try to obtain missing documentation and clarify the supply chain.

  3. Level 3 – Site visit

TFT will visit a node in the supply chain to assess whether systems in place to record and verify wood origin and legal harvest are adequate to reduce the risk to ‘Negligible’

  4. Supplier Training

Where a level 2 or 3 mitigation has been conducted and the results of which are found to be unsatisfactory, at the request of the buyer, TFT will work with the supplier to implement an action plan.  In some cases follow up visits will be made to ensure implementation.  Note: additional supplier training can be requested at any stage in the process.
